WE UNVEIL OUR NEW LOOK WEBSITE
The refreshed website aims to showcase the services we offer to producer members and local authorities.
With a strong use of illustrations, easy navigation and updated information, we hope the site will become a useful resource for information, guidance and the latest news on compliance.
Designed with the user in mind, the site is divided into clear sections where the user can access the information required, providing for the first time, personal contacts to reach out to should further information be required.
To ensure we continue to provide a relevant and topical information service, we are keen to hear initial feedback on the site from our members and partners together with thoughts on how to develop the resource hub further. A short 3 minute survey has been created to capture your feedback <click here>

DEFRA WEEE REGULATIONS REVIEW
Defra’s review of the WEEE Regulations started in April with a stakeholder workshop on “Eco-design and eco-modulation in the WEEE System”. This was attended by producers, trade associations, treatment facilities and compliance schemes, including REPIC.
One of the minimum requirements of the Revised Waste Framework Directive is for the fees paid by producers under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regimes such as WEEE, where possible, to take into account a product’s durability, reparability, re-usability and recyclability, as well as the presence of hazardous substances. The workshop considered how such “eco-modulation” could be achieved within the UK WEEE system.
Following the workshop Defra issued a paper, requesting responses by 19th June. This is an important policy area for all EEE producers and we encouraged our members to engage with their trade associations regarding this. REPIC has also submitted a response. REPIC members can find out more in our REP-ACT-0183 briefing email. Related to this subject, the European Commission has recently published the report it commissioned from Eunomia on implementing EPR, which includes a section on Eco-Modulation. This can be accessed from the following link: https://www.eunomia.co.uk/reports-tools/ec-waste-framework-directive-epr-recommendations-for-guidance/ .
Defra’s review timetable has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the next planned workshops, on Collections and Reuse, have been delayed until July.
The workshops are being used by Defra to inform their thinking on potential future reforms to the WEEE system.
