REPIC takes the lead in the UK to deliver the WEEE Forum’s annual awareness event
Building momentum each year, The WEEE Forum’s International E-Waste Awareness Day is held on or around the 14th October. For the past years, REPIC, as a founding member of the WEEE Forum, has taken the lead in the UK in supporting and shaping the campaign messaging to promote the correct treatment of electrical and electronic equipment to enable reuse, refurbishment and recycling.
International E-Waste Day serves as a platform for raising awareness about responsible WEEE recycling. In 2022, 194 organisations from 72 countries across 6 different continents registered as participants, with many more entries marking the day with activities, news reports and online campaigns.
In 2022, the focus was on those small electrical devices that are no longer used but kept in drawers and cupboards or are often disposed of in the general waste bin. The campaign slogan “Recycle it all, no matter how small” brought together over 194 organisations from 72 countries across 6 continents to raise the profile of the issue and drive behaviour change.
2023 look sets to build on this success under the slogan, “You can recycle anything with a plug, battery or cable!” The 2023 aims to highlight the issue of invisible WEEE – the electrical products that often go unrecognised and are not properly recycled as WEEE.
