What is extended producer responsibility?

What is extended producer responsibility?

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requires producers to take financial responsibility for their products through their entire lifecycle. This moves away from the linear approach of existing producer responsibility legislation, which largely focuses on waste, and instead aims to achieve a more circular economy in which precious resources are kept in use for longer.

The UK Government has already announced its plans for implementing EPR for Packaging, and consultations on introducing EPR for WEEE and Batteries are expected later this year.

How will EPR affect me?

EPR will introduce additional reporting and financial obligations all of which you may be required to act upon. The changes could ultimately influence the way in which you design your products and packaging.

It will affect companies in different ways so it’s important you stay informed. REPIC is fully engaged in EPR implementation and ensures the voice of its producer scheme members are heard in policy development. To discuss membership of the REPIC scheme please contact the team today

How can REPIC help?

REPIC was established by producers, who comprise the majority of REPIC’s board of directors. This means producers have a real say. Placing the needs of producers at the forefront, REPIC treats compliance as more than just a cost and seeks to lead and shape producer responsibility. Through operating market leading and cost effective services, investing in research, building long-standing relationships with government and other industry stakeholders and contributing to policy development, REPIC puts the needs and requirements of its producer members first.
